The inaugural RMIT Law Students’ Society Careers Guide provides current law students and recent graduates with practical information to prepare them for the pursuit of a range of careers in the legal profession.
The Guide contains advice on resume preparation and techniques for landing that first legal job. It surveys the requirements for admission to legal practice in Victoria and interstate jurisdictions (and gives points of reference for practice in some foreign countries), and collates current clerkship guidelines and information on practical legal training programs. In addition, top and mid-tier law firms provide accounts of their areas of specialty and points of difference, and a directory of graduate programs and internships in some federal and state government offices is included.
Indicative of the various options available to law graduates, the Guide incorporates testimonies of ‘life in the law’ from current students and graduates. Aware of the pressures that students and practitioners can face, the Guide also identifies support services for RMIT students and young and later lawyers.
